Learners need specific instruction and time to practice the skills required to pronounce individual and combined phonics and vocabulary. For example, if you cannot pronounce the TH sounds, every word that contains a TH sound will be mispronounced.
Many people experience difficulty with speaking English clearly and being understood because they have never been taught how to produce the English Speech Sounds.
This creates difficulties in the securing employment, in the workplace, being able to participate in meetings, in interacting with colleagues, obtaining promotions and within social environments.
To further develop English language proficiency, effective communication skills such as the use of appropriate speed of speech, intonation, voice projection, word and sentence stress and pausing are incorporated throughout the program.
Pronunciation is one of the most difficult areas for learners of English to self-teach. Pronunciation is not just a cognitive “knowing-that”, it is also a physical “knowing-how”.
Participants are taught the English Phonics by learning the specific mouth positions required for each sound.
They are taught where and how to position their tongues, cheeks, teeth and lips and produce the correct use of their vocal chords and breathing.
Audio Files
Audio files are provided for every participant as they work through the mouth positions and origins of the sound for the individual phonics. These are used for their daily practice for a dual purpose.
⦁ To develop tongue and mouth muscles, giving them the strength and flexibility needed to pronounce foundation phonics clearly and efficiently.
⦁ The development of these skills is critical as many of these sounds may not exist in their first language.
⦁ As the audio files are being practiced and memorised, they play an important role in the development of the participants’ listening skills. They learn to:
⦁ Identify their own specific mispronunciations and continue to correct their own speech progressively.
⦁ Hear and understand English spoken by their peers, colleagues and members of the general community.
Foundation Phonics
Participants will also be taught how to deconstruct English words into foundation phonics, the building blocks of English speech. When they know how to pronounce each building block by using the correct mouth positions and sounds, they can then pronounce any English word.
The training also provides:
⦁ Opportunities for clients to develop cross-cultural competency.
⦁ Knowledge and skills regarding professional language and behaviour in the Australian workplace
This process has helped hundreds of people to speak English correctly, clearly and gain confidence with speaking English in all environments.

“I really benefitted from this program because when I arrived in Australia, I couldn’t understand what people were saying and I was embarrassed that I had to keep asking people to repeat what they said. I was also asked to always repeat myself because people had trouble understanding me. It is so much easier now to speak English and to hear and understand people because I have learned the sounds of the English language in this course. It also enabled me to gain entry into the University I wanted to go to.”
